Commercial Information Circular No. 611/2023
European Union (EU)* : Ecodesign Requirements for Smartphones, Mobile Phones other than Smartphones, Cordless Phones and Slate Tablets
Further to the Commercial Information Circular No. 560/2009 of 6 November 2009 and No. 283/2023 of 18 April 2023, the European Commission has adopted a Regulation which was published on 31 August 2023 to lay down ecodesign requirements for smartphones, mobile phones other than smartphones, cordless phones and slate tablets pursuant to Directive 2009/125/EC, and to amend Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/826. Details are set out in the adopted Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/1670 which can be accessed through the following link: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=OJ:JOL_2023_214_R_0003. It will enter into force on 20 September 2023 with Article 6 on circumvention to apply from the same date and other provisions to apply from 20 June 2025.
