Remarks

Enquirers who wish to seek tariff information from the Trade and Industry Department (TID) are requested to note the following:

  1. All products are classifiable under the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (i.e., the "Harmonized System" or "HS").

  2. A product may be classifiable under several different HS codes.

  3. Products belonging to different HS codes may have different tariffs.

  4. Different Customs authorities may classify a product differently under the HS.

  5. Only the Customs authority of a product's importing country/place can make the final determination of the HS code of that product.

  6. The definitive HS code of a product is obtainable from the importing country's/place's Customs authority or through the importer/buyer concerned.

  7. The TID is not the authority to determine a product's HS code.

  8. For Hong Kong's own HS classification of a product, reference advice can be obtained from the Trade Classification Section of Census and Statistics Department (tel. 2877 1818).

For tariff enquiries to the TID, all enquirers are required to provide the HS code of each of the products concerned. The TID will only provide the requested tariff information to the enquirers against the HS codes given.
