Origin Criterion for Illuminated Signs, Illuminated Name Plates and the Like

Introduction

This circular sets out the revised origin criterion for illuminated signs, illuminated name plates and the like under Mainland 2008 tariff code 9405 6000.

CEPA Origin Criteria

2. On 26 November 2008, the Mainland General Administration of Customs issued the Notice No. 86, 2008 which announced the revised CEPA origin criterion for illuminated signs, illuminated name plates and the like under Mainland 2008 tariff code 9405 6000 as follows:

"Manufactured from illuminated material/apparatus and parts. The principal processes are cutting of parts and assembling into products."

3. Accordingly, the origin criterion for illuminated signs, illuminated name plates and the like classified under Mainland 2008 tariff code 9405 6000 is amended with effect from 1 January 2009. Illuminated signs, illuminated name plates and the like which satisfy the above origin criterion are eligible to apply for Certificate of Hong Kong Origin - CEPA ("CO(CEPA)") and claim CEPA tariff preference with effect from 1 January 2009.
