Türkiye : New Requirement on Halal Conformity Assessment Organisations

The Turkish Government has announced an amendment to its Law No. 7060 on certain regulations regarding the Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK) with new requirement on halal conformity assessment organisations. The amendment (in English and Turkish) is available at Annex (pdf format).

2.In general, halal certification and compliance with halal standards are voluntary in the Republic of Türkiye. Pursuant to the above amendment, halal accreditation by the HAK (which is the only entity with the public authority to provide halal accreditation services in the Republic of Türkiye) shall be obligatory for the bodies providing halal conformity assessment for products and services which will be placed on the Turkish market and are subject to conformity assessment in the fields for which HAK provides accreditation services.

3.The amended regulation will enter into force on 4 June 2023. Administrative fines shall be applied to those organisations violating the regulation by providing halal conformity assessment services without accreditation.
