South Africa : Provisional Safeguard Measure on Threaded Fasteners of Iron or Steel: Bolt Ends & Screw Studs, Screw Studding and Other Hexagon Nuts (Excluding Those of Stainless Steel and Those Identifiable for Aircraft)

According to a notification (document symbol G/SG/N/7/ZAF/4, G/SG/N/11/ZAF/5) circulated by the World Trade Organization (WTO), South Africa will impose a provisional safeguard measure on the imports of threaded fasteners of iron or steel: bolt ends & screw studs, screw studding and other hexagon nuts (excluding those of stainless steel and those identifiable for aircraft) under the Harmonised System (HS) Codes 7318 15 41, 7318 15 42 and 7318 16 30.  The above-mentioned notification can be obtained from the WTO's website at <http://docsonline.wto.org>.

DETAILS

2.Salient points of South Africa's provisional safeguard measure are set out below –

Product Coverage : Threaded fasteners of iron or steel: bolt ends & screw studs, screw studding and other hexagon nuts (excluding those of stainless steel and those identifiable for aircraft) under HS Codes 7318 15 41, 7318 15 42 and 7318 ‍16 ‍30
Provisional Safeguard Measure : Effective Date Duration Safeguard Duty
19 July 2019 Two hundred (200) days, i.e. up to 3 ‍February 2020 An ad valorem safeguard duty of 102.10%
Application of Provisional Safeguard Measure : Imports of the concerned products originating from all economies, including Hong Kong and the Mainland of China, are subject to the provisional safeguard measure unless otherwise excluded from the list as set out in the above-mentioned WTO notification.
