Commercial Information Circular No. 933/2018

European Union (EU)* : Amendments to Regulations on Food Additives

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 445/2018 dated 9 May 2018, the European Commission has adopted five Regulations to amend Annexes of Regulation (EU) No. 1333/2008 and Commission Regulation (EU) No. 231/2012 regarding the followings:

  1. use of low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose (L-HPC) in food supplements;
  2. specifications for certain sorbitan esters (E 491 Sorbitan monostearate, E 492 Sorbitan tristearate and E 495 Sorbitan monopalmitate);
  3. Cochineal, Carminic acid, Carmines (E 120);
  4. octyl gallate (E 311) and dodecyl gallate (E 312); and
  5. food category 17 and the use of food additives in food supplements.
