European Union (EU)* : Authorising Extension of Use of Novel Foods and Correcting Implementing Regulation

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 698/2018 dated 17 July 2018, the European Commission has adopted two Regulations to authorise the extension of use of UV-treated baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and oil from the micro algae Schizochytrium sp. as novel food under Regulation (EC) No. 2015/2283 regarding novel foods, and accordingly amend Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470. After the publication of Regulation (EU) 2017/2470, a number of errors or omissions were noted concerning the specifications or the conditions of use of a number of authorised novel foods. A Regulation has then been adopted to correct the Union list established in the Annex to Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.
