Commercial Information Circular No. 433/2018

European Union (EU)* : Registration of electric bicycles originating in the Mainland of China

Further to Commercial Information Circulars Nos. 985/2017 of 9 November 2017 and 1193/2017 of 22 December 2017, the European Commission (the Commission) has published an implementing regulation making the imports of electric bicycles originating in the Mainland of China subject to registration for nine months from 4 May 2018.  The regulation is available at:

2.The Commission considers that there is sufficient evidence to justify making the imports of the product subject to registration, so that measures may subsequently be applied against those imports from the date of such registration.

3.Salient points of the regulation are set out below -

(a) Product : Cycles, with pedal assistance, with an auxiliary electric motor, currently falling within CN codes 8711 60 10 and ex 8711 60 90. (CN codes are given for information only)
(b) Time Limit for Making Requests : All interested parties are invited to make their views known in writing, to provide supporting evidence, or to request with reasons to be heard within 21 days from 3 May 2018.
