European Union (EU)* : Ecodesign Ecodesign Requirements for Professional Refrigerated Storage Cabinets, Blast Cabinets, Condensing Units and Process Chillers

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 560/2009 of 6 November 2009, the European Commission has adopted a Regulation specifying the ecodesign requirements for professional refrigerated storage cabinets, blast cabinets, condensing units and process chillers. DETAILS

2.The Regulation establishes the ecodesign requirements for electric mains-operated blast cabinets, and electric mains-operated professional refrigerated storage cabinets including those sold for the refrigeration of foodstuffs and animal feed; condensing units operating at low or medium temperature or both; and process chillers intended to operate at low or medium temperature. However, it shall not apply to the products listed in Article 1 of the Regulation.

3.Details of the ecodesign requirements for professional refrigerated storage cabinets and blast cabinets are set out in Annex II of the Regulation while those for condensing units and process chillers are at Annexes V and VII respectively. The respective applicable dates are also set out therein. For compliance, the ecodesign requirements for professional refrigerated storage cabinets shall be measured and calculated in accordance with the methods as set out in Annexes III and IV. For condensing units and process chillers, their compliance shall be measured and calculated in accordance with the methods as set out in Annexes VI and XIII respectively. The verification procedure to ensure the compliance for market surveillance purposes are set out in Annexes IX-XI. The indicative benchmarks for best-performing professional refrigerated storage cabinets, condensing units and process chillers can be found in Annex XII.
