Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 662/2014

European Union (EU)* : Amendment to Regulation Setting Maximum Levels for Certain Contaminants in Foodstuffs

Further to our Commercial Information Circular No. 465/2014 of 19 May 2014, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Regulation amending Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 concerning the maximum levels of erucic acid in vegetable oils and fats and foods containing vegetable oils and fats. Details are set out in the Commission Regulation (EU) No 696/2014, which can be accessed through the following link:
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32014R0696&from=EN

DETAILS

2.Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 sets maximum levels for contaminants in food. While Council Directive 76/621/EEC has established a maximum level for erucic acid in oils and fats intended as such for human consumption and in foodstuffs containing added oils and fats and Commission Directive 2006/141/EC has established a stricter maximum level for erucic acid in infant formulae and follow-on formulae, it is appropriate to establish or indicate the maximum level for erucic acid in Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006. Therefore, Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 should be amended accordingly and the new Regulation shall apply from 1 July 2014.
