Commercial Information Circular No. 104/2014

European Union (EU)* : Tariff Quota on Imports of Garlic Originating in the Mainland of China

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 586/2012 of 26 July 2012, we have received information concerning the issue of import licences by the European Commission (the Commission) for garlic originated in the Mainland of China. DETAILS

2.Commercial Information Circulars No 188/2007 of 27 April 2007 and No 222/2010 of 14 May 2010 informed the trade, among the others, of the Commission's rules for managing tariff quota# for garlic (CN code 0703 2000) originating in the Mainland of China. Since the applications lodged during the first seven working days of January 2014 already exceeded the available quantities of tariff quota, the Commission has enacted the Regulation announcing that import licence applications for garlic originating in the Mainland of China lodged during the first seven working days of January 2014 and sent to the Commission by 14 January 2014 shall be issued at the rate of 32.455175% and 0.409006% of the applied quantities for traditional importers and new importers respectively.

#The tariff quota allows garlic to be imported into the EU at reduced duty rate up to the quota limit. The normal duty rate will resume when imports reach the quota limit.
