Commercial Information Circular No. 603/2013

European Union (EU)* : Classification of Certain Goods in the Combined Nomenclature (CN)

The European Commission (the Commission) has adopted nine Regulations concerning the classification of certain goods in its commodity classification system, the Combined Nomenclature (CN). The Regulations stipulate the CN classification of cat litters composed of natural bentonite clay or silicon dioxide; body control modules, automatic transmissions and smart keys as components of the electronic control system of motor vehicles; aircraft passenger handsets; programmable memory controllers incorporated in washing machines; welded pipes of non-alloy steel used in sprinkler systems; light-emitting diodes (LED) strips; exhaust gas temperature sensors; traffic message channel receivers; as well as humanoid figurines representing comic book characters to ensure uniform application of the CN by Member States' customs authorities.
