Commercial Information Circular No. 518/2013

European Union (EU)* : Ecodesign Requirements for computers and computer servers

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 560/2009 of 6 November 2009, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Regulation specifying the ecodesign requirements for computers and computer servers. DETAILS

2. The Regulation establishes the ecodesign requirements for the placing on the market of computers and computer servers.  It applies to products that can be powered directly from the mains alternating current (AC) including via an external or internal power supply as listed in Article 1(2) of the Regulation.  However, it shall not apply to the product groups listed in Article 1(3) of the Regulation.
3. Details of the ecodesign requirements for computers and computer servers with respective application dates are set out in Annex II of the Regulation. Measurements and verification procedure for market surveillance are set out in Annex III whereas the indicative benchmarks for best-performing computers and computer servers can be found in Annex IV.  The ecodesign requirements for computers and computer servers shall be implemented in stages with effect from 17 July 2013, 1 July 2014 and 1 January 2016 respectively.
