Further to our Commercial Information Circular No. 766/2011 of 6 December 2011, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Regulation amending Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 concerning the maximum levels of the contaminants ochratoxin A, non dioxin-like PCBs and melamine in foodstuffs. Details are set out in the Commission Regulation (EU) No 594/2012, which can be accessed through the following link:
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2012:176:0043:0045:EN:PDF

DETAILS

2.Commission Regulation (EC) No 1259/2011, amending Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006, established new maximum levels for non dioxin-like PCBs applicable as from 1 January 2012. For clarifications, those maximum levels are not applicable to foodstuffs which were lawfully placed on the market before that date.

3. In order to protect public health and taking into account of new scientific information, the EU authorities considered it appropriate to modify the current maximum level of ochratoxin A as well as to include the maximum level of melamine in foodstuffs in Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006. Details of the amendments are set out in the Annex of the Regulation.

4. The Regulation shall apply on 26 July 2012 with the exception of the provisions laid down in point 2.2.11 of the Annex which shall apply from 1 July 2012.
