Dear Sirs,

European Union (EU)* : Amendments to Regulation on Food Additives

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 714/2011 dated 15 November 2011, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted three Regulations to amend Annex II of Regulation (EC) No. 1333/2008 concerning the use of polydextrose and lysozyme in beer as well as the use of glycerol esters of wood rosins for printing on hard-coated confectionery products. Details are set out in Commission Regulations (EU) Nos. 470/2012, 471/2012 and 472/2012, which can be accessed through the following links:

DETAILS

2.Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, which will be replaced by Commission Regulation (EU) No 1129/2011 from 1 June 2013, lays down a Union list of food additives approved for use in foods and their conditions of use. In order to allow the use of polydextrose and lysozyme in beer as well as the use of glycerol esters of wood rosins for printing on hard-coated confectionery products before that date, Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 should be amended with an earlier date of application set on 25 June 2012 for the above mentioned food additives.
