Commercial Information Circular No. 3/2012

European Union (EU)* : Temporary Tariff Suspension for Certain Industrial, Agricultural and Fishery Products

Further to the Commercial Information Circular No. 376/2011 of 30 June 2011, the Council of the EU (the Council) has adopted a regulation (the "Regulation") repealing the existing suspension regulation and replacing it with a new list of products of which import tariffs were partially or totally suspended. The Regulation can be accessed through the following link :

DETAILS

2.Temporary tariff suspension applies to products which the Union does not have sufficient supply to meet the needs. Products for which tariff duties are temporarily suspended can be imported into the Union at reduced or zero rate automatically, regardless of origin and quantity.
 

3.The Council has amended the existing regulation on temporary suspension of tariff duties on certain industrial, agricultural and fishery products many times, and considers that it should be replaced in its entirety in the interest of transparency. The Council also considers that it is appropriate not to limit the period of validity of this Regulation as its scope can be adapted and products added to or removed from the list. Besides, in view of their temporary nature, the suspensions listed in this Regulation shall be reviewed systematically in the year set out in the list. Details of the suspensions are set out in the Regulation and its annex. The Regulation shall apply from 1 January 2012.
