Commercial Information Circular No. 766/2011

European Union (EU)* : Amendments to Regulation Setting Maximum Levels for Certain Contaminants in Foodstuffs

Further to our Commercial Information Circular No. 256/2011 of 4 May 2011, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted two Regulations amending Regulation (EC) No. 1881/2006 concerning the maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs. DETAILS

2. In order to protect public health and taking into account of new scientific information, the EU authorities considered necessary to revise the maximum levels of nitrates; dioxins; dioxin-like PCBs; as well as non dioxin-like PCBs in certain foodstuff. Details of the amendments are set out in the Regulations. 
 

3. Commission Regulation (EU) No 1258/2011 and No 1259/2011 shall apply from 23 December 2011 and 1 January 2012 respectively, except that the maximum levels for rucola mentioned in the Annex of Commission Regulation (EU) No 1258/2011 shall apply from 1 April 2012.
