Commercial Information Circular No. 718/2011

European Union (EU)* : Regulation on Addition of Minerals to Food

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 615/2009 of 11 December 2009, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Regulation amending the list of minerals which can be added to foods, including food supplements. DETAILS

2. Directive 2002/46/EC and Regulation (EC) No. 1925/2006 established the lists of vitamins and minerals and their forms, which may be added to food and used for the manufacture of food supplements. Commission Regulation (EC) No. 953/2009 also established the list of substances that may be added for specific nutritional purposes in foods for particular nutritional uses.

3. Recently, new mineral substances have been evaluated by the European Food Safety Authority and the evaluation result concluded that some substances should be added to the lists. For details, please refer to the Articles 1, 2 and 3 of the Regulation.
