European Union (EU)* : Amendments to Regulation on Food Additives

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 169/2011 dated 16 March 2011, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted three regulations to amend Annex II and Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 concerning the establishment of the Union Lists of approved food additives under specified conditions of use. DETAILS

2. Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 provides for the establishment of a Union list of food additives approved for use in foods and their condition of use. Only food additives included in the Union list set out in Annex II may be placed on the market and used in foods under the specified conditions of use while Annex III establishes the Union list of food additives including carriers approved for use in food additives, food enzymes, food flavourings, nutrients and their conditions of use.

3. In light of the technological development, Annex II and Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 should be amended and applied from 1 June 2013 and 2 December 2011 respectively.
