European Union (EU)* : Safety Requirements for Stationary Training Equipments and Gymnastic Equipments

The European Commission (the Commission) has adopted two Decisions setting out the safety requirements to be met by European standards for stationary training equipments and gymnastic equipments. DETAILS

2. In order to assess the conformity of the new versions and of any subsequent versions of the European standards with the general safety requirement of Directive 2001/95/EC, the Commission has set out the specific safety requirements for stationary training equipments and gymnastic equipments with a view to mandating the European standardization bodies to develop relevant European standards on the basis of those requirements.

3. Decisions 2011/476/EU and 2011/479/EU have set out the safety requirements for the stationary training equipments and the gymnastic equipments in their respective annex. Stationary training equipments used for training, exercising, diagnostic or rehabilitation purposes that involved repetitive movements and which remain static during use, whether stand on the floor, or fixed to the ceiling or a wall or other fixed structure are covered by the mandate. As for gymnastic equipments, if they are used for training, exercising or competition purposes, no matter they stand on the floor or are fixed to the ceiling or a wall or other fixed structure, they are covered by the mandate.
