Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 388/2011

European Union (EU)* : Community Eco-Label Award Scheme (lubricants, hand dishwashing detergents, and all-purpose cleaners and sanitary cleaners)

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 335/2011 dated 13 June 2011, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted three Decisions to establish the ecological criteria for the award of the EU Eco-Label to lubricants, hand dishwashing detergents, and all-purpose cleaners and sanitary cleaners. Details are set out in Commission Decisions 2011/381/EU, 2011/382/EU and 2011/383/EU respectively, which can be accessed through the following links:
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:169:0028:0039:EN:PDF

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:169:0052:0064:EN:PDF

2. In light of the technological development, the new criteria, as well as the related assessment and verification requirements for lubricants, hand dishwashing detergents, and all-purpose cleaners and sanitary cleaners should be valid for 4 years from the date of adoption of the above Decisions and thus, the previous Decisions 2005/360/EC, 2005/342/EC and 2005/344/EC should be repealed.

3. During the transitional period, if the Eco-Label is awarded on the basis of an application evaluated according to the criteria set out in Decisions 2005/360/EC, 2005/342/EC and 2005/344/EC, that Eco-label may be used for 12 months from the date of adoption of the relevant Decisions.
