Commercial Information Circular No. 335/2011

European Union (EU)* : Community Eco-Label Award Scheme (Notebook Computers, Light Sources, Copying and Graphic Paper, and Personal Computers)

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 264/2011 dated 6 May 2011, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted four Decisions to establish the ecological criteria for the award of the EU Eco-Label to notebook computers, light sources, copying and graphic paper, and personal computers. Details are set out in Commission Decisions 2011/330/EU, 2011/331/EU, 2011/332/EU and 2011/337/EU respectively, which can be accessed through the following links:

DETAILS

2. The ecological criteria, the related assessments and verification requirements for notebook computers, light sources, copying and graphic paper, and personal computers were set out in Commission Decisions 2005/343/EC, 2002/747/EC, 2002/741/EC and 2005/341/EC respectively. In light of technological developments, new ecological criteria as well as the related assessments and verification requirements have been established and thus, the respective Decisions should be replaced. 

  1. Commission Decision 2011/330/EU has set out the new ecological criteria for notebook computers and is valid for 3 years from the date of adoption of the Decision. 
     

  2. Commission Decision 2011/331/EU has set out the new ecological criteria for light sources and is valid for 2 years from the date of adoption of the Decision. 
     

  3. Commission Decision 2011/332/EU has set out the new ecological criteria for copying and graphic paper and is valid for 4 years from the date of adoption of the Decision. 
     

  4. Commission Decision 2011/337/EU has set out the new ecological criteria for personal computers and is valid for 3 years from the date of adoption of the Decision. 

3. During the transitional period, if the Eco-Label is awarded on the basis of an application evaluated according to the criteria set out in Decisions 2005/343/EC, 2002/747/EC, 2002/741/EC or 2005/341/EC, that Eco-label may be used for 12 months from the date of adoption of the relevant Decisions.
