Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 264/2011

European Union (EU)* : Community Eco-Label Award Scheme (Detergents for dishwashers and laundry detergents)

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 97/2011 dated 8 February 2011, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted two Decisions to establish the ecological criteria for the award of the EU Eco-Label to detergents for dishwashers and laundry detergents. Details are set out in Commission Decision 2011/263/EU and 2011/264/EU, which can be accessed through the following links:
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:111:0022:0033:EN:PDF

DETAILS

2. The ecological criteria and the related assessment and verification requirements for detergents for dishwashers and laundry detergents are set out in Commission Decisions 2003/31/EC and 2003/200/EC respectively. In light of technological developments, the definitions of their product groups have to be modified to include new sub-product groups and to establish new criteria. Therefore, Decisions 2003/31/EC and 2003/200/EC should be replaced for reasons of clarity. The new criteria, as well as the related assessment and verification requirements for detergents for dishwashers and laundry detergents shall apply from 28 April 2011 and valid for 4 years.

3. During the transitional period, if an Eco-Label is awarded according to the criteria set out in Decisions 2003/31/EC or 2003/200/EC, it may be used for 12 months from 28 April 2011.
