Commercial Information Circular No. 219/2011

European Union (EU)* : Ecodesign Requirements for Fans

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 560/2009 dated 6 November 2009, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Regulation specifying the ecodesign requirements for fans driven by motors with an electric input power between 125 W and 500 kW. DETAILS

2. The Regulation establishes ecodesign requirements as well as the conformity assessment and verification procedure for the placing on the market or putting into service of fans, including those integrated in other energy-related products. However, it shall not apply to fans mentioned in Sections 2 and 3 of Article 1 of the Regulation. 
 

3. Details of the ecodesign requirements including energy efficiency and product information on fans are set out in Annex I of the Regulation. Compliance with ecodesign requirements shall be measured and calculated in accordance with requirements set out in Annex II. Verification procedures are set out in Annex III whereas the indicative benchmarks for best-performing fans can be found in Annex IV. The ecodesign requirements for fans shall be implemented by stages with effect from 1 January 2013 and 1 January 2015 respectively.
