Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 93/2010

European Union (EU)* : Community Eco-Label Award Scheme

The European Parliament and the Council of European Union have adopted a Regulation revising the EU Eco-Label Award Scheme. Details are set out in Regulation (EC) No. 66/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council (the Regulation), which can be accessed through the following link : http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2010:027:0001:0019:EN:PDF

DETAILS

  1.
  2. To increase the effectiveness and streamline the operation, the Regulation revised the rules for the establishment and application of the voluntary EU Eco-label scheme. Under the Regulation, the EU Eco-label criteria shall be based on environmental performance of products. For products wishing to be awarded the Eco-label, they should comply with the Eco-label criteria applicable to the product group concerned. Applications should be submitted to the competent bodies in the Member States. The competent body will conclude a contract with the successful applicant, covering the terms of use of the EU Eco-label. An operator may only place the EU Eco-Label, including the registration number, on the product after the conclusion of the contract. The competent body shall charge fees for the application and use of the EU Eco-label (if awarded) in accordance with Annex III of the Regulation.

  3. Regulation (EC) No. 1980/2000 on the Community Eco-label Award Scheme is repealed. Existing contracts concluded will continue to be valid until the contract expired, but the new fees stipulated in Annex III of the Regulation will be applied to such contracts.
