European Union (EU)* : Results of an Expiry Review of the Anti-dumping Measures on Imports of Polyethylene Terephthalate Originating in the Mainland of China

Further to the Commercial Information Circular No. 426/2009 of 18 August 2009, the Council of the EU has published a regulation announcing the decision to maintain the definitive anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of polyethylene terephthalate originating in the Mainland of China following an expiry review.   1. Salient points are set out below -

BACKGROUND

  1. Definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of polyethylene terephthalate originating in, inter alia, the Mainland of China was first imposed from 20 August 2004 for five years with a rate of duty at EUR 184 per tonne (except for nine companies whose individual duty rates ranging from EUR 0 to EUR 184 per tonne).

  1. At the request of the Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Committee of Plastics Europe on behalf of producers representing a major proportion, in this case more than 50 %, of the total Union production of polyethylene terephthalate, the European Commission initiated an expiry review on 18 August 2009. As a result of the review, the definitive anti-dumping duty on polyethylene terephthalate originating in the Mainland of China has been maintained with effect from 18 November 2010.
