Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 304/2010

Denmark : Ban on Bisphenol A in materials in contact with food for children

The Danish government, together with the Danish People's Party, has decided to introduce a temporary national ban on bisphenol A in materials in contact with food for children aged 0-3 years. Details of the ban can be found in the following webpage:
http://www.fvm.dk/Default.aspx?ID=18488&PID=169747&NewsID=6014

DETAILS

  1. Following a new assessment by the National Food Institute at the Technical University of Denmark on bisphonel A, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration notes that reduced learning capacity has been found in young rats given low doses of bisphenol A. Based on the precautionary principle, it is decided to introduce protective measures with respect to children aged 0-3 years until new studies prove otherwise. With effect from 1 July 2010, there will be a temporary national ban on bisphenol A in products aimed at children aged 0-3 years in Denmark, including feeding bottles, feeding cups and materials in contact with food.
