Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 50/2006

European Union (EU)*: Tariff Quotas for Certain Agricultural and Industrial Products

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 266/2005 of 19 July 2005, the Council of the EU has adopted a regulation amending the list of products eligible for reduced tariffs under the Community tariff quota mechanism. A copy of the Council Regulation (EC) No. 151/2006 is attached (pdf format) for reference.

DETAILS

  1. Tariff quotas allow Community industries to acquire for their production raw materials/components, supply of which are inadequate or non-existent in the Community. Products eligible for tariff quotas can be imported into the EU at reduced or zero tariff rates up to the quota limit within a specified period of time. The normal tariff rates will resume when imports reach the quota limit or upon expiry of the quota validity period.

  2. The Council's latest amendments set out the revised quota limit for certain items in 2006 and the comprehensive list of products eligible for tariff quotas with effect from 1 January 2006. The list covers mainly certain foodstuffs, chemicals, plastics, glassware, parts and accessories of electrical equipment, and ferro-alloys.
