Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 360/2006

European Union (EU)* : Amendment to the Revised Entry Requirements of Certain Wood Packaging Material

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 84/2005 of 5 March 2005, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Directive to postpone the entry into force of the requirement to use debarked round wood (i.e. the debarking requirement) for wood packaging material until 1 January 2009. Details are set out in Commission Directive 2006/14/EC (the Directive), a copy (pdf format) of which is attached to this circular for reference.

DETAILS

  1. As mentioned in Commercial Information Circular No. 84/2005, the European Council postponed the entry into force of the debarking requirement for wood packaging material, including wood used to wedge or support non-wood cargo, to 1 March 2006. As the research on various technical aspects of debarking wood is still under way, the EU authorities considered it appropriate to further postpone the application of the debarking requirement to 1 January 2009, but would review it by 1 September 2007.
