Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 250/2006

European Union (EU)* : Tariff Quotas for Certain Agricultural and Industrial Products

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 50/2006 of 8 February 2006, the Council of the EU has adopted a regulation amending the list of products eligible for reduced tariffs under the Community tariff quota mechanism. A copy (pdf format) of the Council Regulation (EC) No. 962/2006 is attached for reference.

DETAILS

  1. Tariff quotas allow Community industries to acquire for their production raw materials/components, supply of which are inadequate or non-existent in the Community. Products eligible for tariff quotas can be imported into the EU at reduced or zero tariff rates up to the quota limit within a specified period of time. The normal tariff rates will resume when imports reach the quota limit or upon expiry of the quota validity period.
  2. The Council's latest amendments extended the tariff quotas to several new products, such as certain glassware, chemicals, and parts and accessories of electrical equipment. They have taken effect since 1 July 2006.
