Dear Sirs

Commercial Information Circular No. 134/99

Norway : Total Ban on the Use of Phthalates in Children's Toys

We have received information that Norway has introduced a total ban on the use of phthalates in toys for children under three years old on 28 July 1999. Details on products covered by the ban and implementation details are not available. The Norwegian authorities have, however, indicated that a large share of the banned toys are for children taking a bath or playing in water, and products made of pure polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are excluded from the ban. We are obtaining further information from the Norwegian authorities and will keep traders informed when details are available.
