Commercial Information Circular No. 266/2008
The Mainland of China : Public Consultation on the "Law of the People's Republic of China on Food Safety (Draft)" and the "Administrative Measures on Inspection, Quarantine and Supervision of Import and Export of Food (Draft)"
The General Office of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has recently issued a notice seeking public comments on the "Law of the People's Republic of China on Food Safety (Draft)". The draft law governs food safety standard, inspection, production and operation, import and export, and supervision and management, etc. A copy of the notice is attached at Appendix I (pdf format) for reference.
- The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has also issued a notice inviting views on amending the "Administrative Measures on Inspection, Quarantine and Supervision of Import and Export of Food (Draft)". Among others, the draft measures require that food products imported to and exported from the Mainland should be produced by foreign or domestic enterprises which have obtained hygiene registration. A copy of the notice is attached at Appendix II (pdf format) for reference.
