The Mainland of China : Notice Concerning Promoting the Development
of the Product Identification, Authentication and Tracking
System for Year 2008

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) has recently issued a notice instructing all local agencies and product certification organizations to actively promote the registration, electronic barcode assigning and sale approval processes for the first batch of products required to be registered under the Product Identification, Authentication and Tracking System, which covers a total of 69 products under 9 categories. The notice also provides details of the electronic barcode assigning implementation scheme and the printing requirements of the assigned barcodes on product packages. The transitional period allowed for electronic barcode assigning will end by 31 December 2008. A copy of the notice is attached at Appendix (pdf format) for reference.
