The Mainland of China : Technical Requirements for Quarantine Treatments
of Wood Packing Materials Originating in the European Union

The State General Administration for Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) announced on 28 June 2002 the Emergency Interim Phytosanitary Measure against Wood Packing Materials originating in the European Union (EU), which will take effect from 1 October 2002 (CIC No. 141/02 dated 26 July 2002). AQSIQ recently announced the technical requirements for quarantine treatments of wood packing material originating in the EU to China :

(a) Methyl bromide fumigation at normal atmospheric pressure

at the dosage rate of 48g/m3 for 24 hours at 21 degree or above, or
at the dosage rate of 56g/m3 for 24 hours at 16 degree or above, or
at the dosage rate of 64g/m3 for 24 hours at 11 degree or above, or
at the dosage rate of 80g/m3 for 24 hours at 5 degree or above.

(b) Heat treatment

Heat treatment for wood packing material to attain a minimum core temperature of 56 degree for at least 30 minutes.

(c) Other quarantine treatments

The Mainland will accept other quarantine treatments if they are assessed and approved by Chinese experts as effective quarantine treatments based on the technical experimental data submitted by the quarantine authorities of the exporting countries.
