Commercial Information Circular No. 82/2024

US : Energy Conservation Standards for Refrigerators, Refrigerator-Freezers, and Freezers

The US Department of Energy (DOE) published in the Federal Register (FR) of 17 January 2024 a direct final rule to adopt amended energy conservation standards for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers.

2.The DOE has determined that the amended energy conservation standards for the subject products would result in significant conservation of energy, and are technologically feasible and economically justified. These standards apply to all subject products manufactured in or imported into the US. The effective date of this rule is 16 May 2024.

3.If adverse comments are received by 6 May 2024, and the DOE determines that such comments may provide a reasonable basis for withdrawal of the direct final rule, a timely withdrawal of the rule will be published in the FR. If no such adverse comments are received, compliance with the amended standards is required on and after 31 January 2029 and 31 January 2030, depending on the products concerned.
