Commercial Information Circular No. 770/2023

US : Energy Conservation Standards for Electric Motors

The US Department of Energy (DOE) promulgated in the Federal Register (FR) notice of 20 October 2023 the direct final rule confirming the effective and compliance date of the new and amended energy conservation standards for electric motors.

2.On 1 June 2023, the DOE published a direct final rule to establish new and amended energy conservation standards for electric motors in the FR. DOE has determined that the comments received in response to the direct final rule do not provide a reasonable basis for withdrawing the direct final rule. Therefore, DOE published the FR notice of 20 October 2023 confirming the effective date of 29 September 2023 for the direct final rule published on 1 June 2023 and compliance with the new standards is required for all equipment concerned manufactured in, or imported into, the US on and after 1 June 2027.
