US : Section 301 Tariffs on Mainland Products - Extension of 81 Medical-care Product Exclusions through 31 May 2023 and Further Extension of 77 Medical-care Product Exclusions through 30 September 2023

Further to Commercial Information Circular (CIC) no. 111/2023 of 3 February 2023, the US Trade Representative (USTR) issued a notice on 12 May 2023 announcing the extension of 81 medical-care product exclusions through 31 May 2023 and further extension of 77 medical-care product exclusions through 30 September 2023.

DETAILS

2.Since July 2018, the US has imposed additional tariffs on Mainland products worth approximately US$370 billion under the Section 301 investigation in four tranches (Lists 1-3: 25%; List 4A: 7.5%). The USTR also initiated exclusion processes for stakeholders to submit requests for the exclusion of specific products from the additional tariffs. Subsequently, 99 items of medical-care products to address the COVID-19 pandemic were excluded from the additional tariffs through 14 November 2021. The exclusion for 81 of these 99 medical-care products were further extended through 15 May 2023. For details, please refer to CIC Nos. 782/2021, 429/2022, 924/2022 and 111/2023 of 11 November 2021, 30 May 2022, 24 November 2022 and 3 February 2023 respectively.

3.On 12 May 2023, the USTR issued a notice announcing the extension of these 81 medical-care product exclusions through 31 May 2023. The exclusion for 77 of these 81 medical-care products are further extended through 30 September 2023.
