Commercial Information Circular No. 606/2021

Peru : Regulations to Prohibit Lead-Containing Paints and Coatings

The Peruvian Government published Law 31182/2021 to prohibit the production, importation, distribution and commerialisation of paints and other coating materials containing lead in an amount greater than 90 parts per million (ppm) or 90 mg/kg of the total non-volatile paint content or the dry paint weight.

2.Amongst others, importers will be required to register in a new registry established by the Peruvian Ministry of Production no later than 30 August 2021. The Directorate-General of Environmental Health and Food Safety (DIGESA) will provide a sanitary authorisation of no toxicity to compliant paints and other coating materials. Importers will be required to have a certificate of analysis and composition issued by an accredited entity.
