Commercial Information Circular No. 583/2021

Mexico : Import Requirement for Organic Agricultural Products

The Mexican government has issued a notice to update the list of agricultural products whose importation is subject to regulation by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The notice also includes a requirement that products importing into Mexico under the names or labelled as "organic" ("orgánico" in Spanish), "biological" ("biológico" in Spanish) or "ecological" ("ecológico" in Spanish), or with the prefixes "bio" or "eco" have to be accompanied by a simple copy of the current organic certificate demonstrating the organic quality of the product to be imported as well as a control document issued by an approved organic certification body. The requirement, originally scheduled for 26 June 2021, will enter into force on 1 January 2022.
