Commercial Information Circular No. 306/2021

Brazil : Conformity Assessments and Technical Requirements for Various Products

The National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil approved conformity assessments and/or technical requirements of various products. A summary of the products is set out as follows:

  1. Certain Fluorescent Lamp Ballasts

    INMETRO has approved consolidated technical requirements for alternating current electronic ballasts for straight, circular and compact fluorescent lamps. Subject merchandise must comply with the requirements of technical standards ABNT NBR 14417:2011 and ABNT NBR 14418:2011.
  2. Certain Mattresses

    INMETRO has approved consolidated technical and conformity assessment requirements for spring mattresses as well as flexible polyurethane foam mattresses. Importers and domestic manufacturers must update their procedures as outlined in these regulations no later than 26 August 2022. In the case of foam mattresses, subject merchandise imported or manufactured domestically were required to comply with the provisions of Annex IV of Directive 35/2021 by 13 February 2021, while distributors and sellers of subject merchandise must only sell compliant mattresses by 13 August 2021.
  3. Certain Needles

    INMETRO has approved effective 1 March 2021 consolidated conformity assessment requirements for single-use sterile hypodermic needles and single-use sterile gingival needles.
  4. Certain Safety Vests

    INMETRO has approved consolidated conformity assessment requirements for high-visibility safety vests, except for high-visibility vests not designed for traffic safety. Importers and domestic manufacturers must update their procedures as outlined in this regulation no later than 26 August 2022.
  5. Certain Plastic Cups

    INMETRO has approved consolidated conformity assessment requirements for disposable plastic cups. Importers and domestic manufacturers must update their procedures as outlined in this regulation no later than 26 August 2022.
  6. Certain Gas Lighters

    INMETRO has approved consolidated conformity assessment requirements for gas lighters. Importers and domestic manufacturers must update their procedures as outlined in this regulation no later than 26 August 2022.
  7. Certain Bike Tyres

    INMETRO has approved consolidated conformity assessment requirements for tyres for adult bicycles. Importers and domestic manufacturers must update their procedures as outlined in this regulation no later than 26 August 2022.
  8. Certain Luminous Transmittance Metres

    INMETRO has approved consolidated metrological technical requirements for luminous transmittance metres designed to determine light transmittance in solar control films, glass and other simple or composite materials.
  9. Certain Thermometers

    INMETRO has approved effective 1 March 2021 consolidated conformity assessment requirements for liquid-in-glass thermometers used to measure the temperature of petroleum, petroleum derivatives and liquid biofuels.
  10. Certain Measuring Instruments

    INMETRO has approved effective 1 March 2021 consolidated conformity assessment requirements for certain measuring instruments.
