Commercial Information Circular No. 139/2021

Mexico : New Content Labelling Requirements for Video Games

The Mexican government has issued new content labelling requirements for video games. The requirements will enter into force on 26 May 2021.

DETAILS

2.In accordance with the new guidelines on video game classification, video games are required to be labelled, on their front cover, with one of the following five content classifications:

  • Classification A - content for all audiences;
  • Classification B - content for teens ages 12 and above;
  • Classification B15 - content for ages 15 and above;
  • Classification C - content not suitable for persons under the age of 18; and
  • Classification D - extreme and adult content.

In addition, content descriptors and interactive elements have to be labelled on the back cover of the video games. The labels have to comply with the prescribed format stipulated in the guidelines.
