Commercial Information Circular No. 98/2018

Mexico : New Energy Efficiency Standards for External Power Supplies

The Mexican government has established mandatory energy efficiency standards for external power supplies. The new standard NOM-029-ENER-2017 will enter into force on 25 April 2018.

DETAILS

2.The new standard sets out (1) minimum energy efficiency standards in operation mode; (2) maximum power limits in no-load or vacuum mode; (3) test methods; (4) conformity assessment; and (5) marking and labelling requirements for external power supplies. It covers external power supplies that convert alternating current voltage to a single level of fixed continuous current voltage with a maximum output power of 250 watts or less, with the exclusion of external power supplies incorporating a battery, battery pack or battery type/chemistry switch, as well as supplies that form part of equipment and apparatus that are not sold to the public and are intended for special uses.
