US : Suspensions and Reductions of Import Duties for Certain Chemical and Other Items under Miscellaneous Tariff Bill Act of 2018

The US President signed into law the "Miscellaneous Tariff Bill Act of 2018" (MTB) on 13 September 2018. The law reduces or suspends import duties on nearly 1,700 products that are not otherwise available in the US. These reductions and suspensions of import duties will apply to goods entered, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, from 13 October 2018 through 31 December 2020.

DETAILS

2.The MTB amends the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States to temporarily modify certain rates of duty under the American Manufacturing and Competitiveness Act of 2016. Through the MTB, Congress temporarily suspends or reduces tariffs on certain imports for three years. The MTB includes a broad range of products and the majority are chemical inputs. or other inputs used by US manufacturers, who assert that the tariff relief provided by the MTB helps reduce their manufacturing costs, thus making their products more competitive. Also included are some textiles, apparel, and footwear; machinery and equipment; and agricultural and fishery products, sports and fitness products, among others. The duty reductions/suspensions will apply to goods entered, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, from 13 October 2018 through 31 December 2020.
