Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 725/2018

US : Advisory on Sanctions Risks for Businesses With Supply Chain Links to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 1104/2017 of 5 December 2017 regarding the US' additional sanctions with respect to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (i.e. North Korea),  the US Department of State, Department of Treasury and Department of Homeland Security issued an advisory on 23 July 2018 to highlight the sanctions evasion tactics used by North Korea that could expose businesses, including manufacturers, buyers, and service providers, to sanctions compliance risks under US or United Nations sanctions.  Among others, the advisory has set out various scenarios on heightened risk for and potential indicators of goods, services, and technology with a North Korean Nexus. The details of the advisory are available at https://www.state.gov/documents/organization/284481.pdf.

2.For background information on the US' sanctions against North Korea, please refer to https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/Programs/Pages/nkorea.aspx. You are advised to consider the effect of the US' sanctions on your organisations' activities, and seek legal advice where necessary.
