Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 18/2018
US : Energy Conservation Standards for Rough Service Lamps and Vibration Service Lamps
The US Department of Energy (DOE) promulgated in the Federal Register (FR) notice of 26 December 2017 the final rule on certain backstop requirements for rough service lamps and vibration service lamps. The effective date of the final rule is 25 January 2018.
2.The DOE is required to initiate an accelerated rulemaking to establish energy conservation standards for the subject lamps once their annual sales exceed certain benchmarks. As the rulemaking is not completed within one year, there are backstop requirements which establish, by statute, the energy conservation standards for the subject lamps. Vibration service lamps are required to: (1) have a maximum 40-watt limitation and (2) be sold at retail only in a package containing one lamp. Rough service lamps are required to: (1) have a shatter-proof coating or equivalent technology; (2) have a maximum 40-watt limitation; and (3) be sold at retail only in a package containing one lamp. For details, please refer to the FR notice at: https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2017-12-26/pdf/2017-27744.pdf.
