Commercial Information Circular No. 1082/2018
US : Safety Standard for Cigarette Lighters - Adjusted Customs Value for Cigarette Lighters
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (Commission) published in the Federal Register (FR) of 3 December 2018 a final rule revising the cigarette lighter standard to adjust the import value to USD $2.75.
2.The Commission issued in 1993 a standard requiring disposable and novelty lighters to meet certain requirements for child resistance. The standard defines "disposable lighters" in part, as refillable lighters that use butane or similar fuels that have a customs value or ex-factory price below a threshold value. The value adjusts every 5 years for inflation. This final rule adjusts the value from USD $2.50 to USD $2.75 with effect from 3 December 2018.
3.For further details, please refer to the relevant FR notice which is available at: https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2018-12-03/pdf/2018-26160.pdf.
