Commercial Information Circular No. 830/2017

Canada :  Prohibition on Use of Partially Hydrogenated Oils in Foods 

Health Canada issued a notice on 15 September 2017 to prohibit the use of partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) in foods with effect from 15 September 2018.

2.The prohibition applies to PHOs, which are defined as those fats and oils that:

  • have been hydrogenated, and
  • have an iodine value of greater than 4.
