Mexico : Standards for Room Air Conditioners
The Mexican government has amended the mandatory safety and energy efficiency standards for room air conditioners with a cooling capacity of up to 10,600 watts, with or without a heating capacity. Split air conditioners are excluded. The new standard NOM-021-ENER/SCFI-2017 will enter into force on 3 January 2018, although compliance with certain requirements on user safety, marking and instructions will be required from 2 July 2018.
DETAILS
2.Among other things, the new regulation sets forth stricter energy efficiency standards for these products and requires compliance with the safety provisions of Mexican national standards NMX-J-521/1-ANCE-2012 (general safety requirements) and NMX-J-521/2-40-ANCE-2014 (specific requirements for room air conditioners). The regulation also includes provisions regarding classification of air conditioners, sampling, test methods, acceptance criteria, labelling and commercial information, and conformity assessment.
