Commercial Information Circular No. 356/2017

Chile : Labelling Requirements for Certain Products

The Chilean government has issued Exempt Resolution No. 7/2017 and Decree No. 51/2017 to approve the labelling requirements for certain products.

2.The labelling requirements are tabulated as follows for easy reference. For details, please refer to the relevant official notices (in Spanish).

  • The energy efficiency label must include:
    1. the name or brand of the supplier;
    2. the identifying code of the supplier (generally an alphanumeric code) ;
    3. the energy efficiency class of the product;
    4. energy consumption in active mode;
    5. energy consumption in standby mode;
    6. monthly energy consumption in active mode; and
    7. the visible diagonal of the screen in inches.
  • The energy efficiency label must also comply with certain requirements regarding its dimensions, colour and characteristics.

Video Games Decree No. 51/2017:

  • Domestic producers and importers are required to place a label or marking indicating the level of violence of the product.
  • The label or marking must be placed on the product so that it remains visible to the consumer, either by means of a self-adhesive label or a film or seal surrounding the packaging.
  • The legends or warnings must be provided in Spanish, be easily legible at first glance, have a font no smaller than 2.5 millimetres, occupy at least 25 percent of both sides of the video game's packaging, and comply with various other requirements.
  • Video games sold through digital platforms are not subject to these requirements.
