Commercial Information Circular No. 161/2017

US : Revisions to Safety Standard for Toddler Beds

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (Commission) published in the Federal Register (FR) of 22 February 2017 a direct final rule revising the Commission's mandatory safety standard for toddler beds.

2.The revision is to incorporate by reference more recent versions of the applicable ASTM standards, i.e. ASTM F1821-16: "Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Toddler Beds", as developed by ASTM International. The revised ASTM standard includes addition of performance and test requirements for potential entrapment in side rails.

3.The effective date of the direct final rule is 6 June 2017. If the Commission receives significant adverse comments　by 24 March 2017, it will withdraw the direct final rule before its effective date.
